Hot August Nights

Farm life has been busy, busy! We did find some time to go check out the cars for Hot August Nights. It was hot and fun. It's always neat to see peoples' over-the-top vehicles! Carmen and Ernie joined in on the fun!

After checking out the cars we had to stop at Costco. Crew had been telling us he was so hungry so I took him into Costco while Sawyer slept in the car with Abe. Crew chowed down on a giant hot dog. We then all got back in the car to head to dinner.

It's a good thing Crew ate, because we had to wait on the highway for a long time before we could get past an accident . . . Then onto a delicious dinner.

Midnight Snack

Tonight as Abe and I were closing up the house and checking on the boys, we noticed something was amiss. It's 10:30 pm and Sawyer is not in bed. Check the bathroom, nope. Peak around the corner and there he is, enjoying a midnight snack! I was thrilled that I had my phone on me and I was able to capture the pictures of him getting caught eating not one, not two, but three suckers at once!!!

 And then I was also reminded how messy I left my kitchen to spend time with my husband instead... I am grateful for the laughs I had with my husband and the dishes were done the next morning.

Crew's New Bike

We ordered this bike and anxiously awaited it's arrival. Crew's $10 thrift store bike was just a little too small for him to ride and his legs would spin at top speed without a lot of forward motion. 

This was the talk of the house as we tracked and counted the days on the calendar for it to arrive. As we were leaving early to a church party, it arrived! So of course I put it together as quickly as possible for a quick trip around the yard. Of course our early  head start turned into a late arrival to the party.  It was all worth seeing this boy grinning from ear to ear.

Jump With Me Mom

Crew has been obsessed. Obsessed! with jumping this summer. He is always requesting that we go out and jump. I do my best to comply. Today as I was jumping with him, he asked if he could take a picture of me. He got some great shots and I spiced them up a little with my phone app. I think he may have a love for the camera already!

Arave Family Reunion: The Wedding

We went to bed with the idea that we would get up early, get the yard set up, and head to the lake. Well, those plans were doomed to fail. Crew woke up about an hour into the night with a croupy cough. I set up the humidifier, put some oils on his chest, and put him back to sleep. Less than 20 minutes later he wakes up not able to breath. I spent the rest of the night holding him upright so he could sleep. We did a steamy shower and then slept in a chair outside. Unfortunately it wasn't cool enough to give him relief. In hind sight I should have sat in front of the deep freezer with him.
We have survived through two other serious bouts of Croup without ever seeking medical care, but this time felt different. In the morning he was breathing better, but tired. We were all too exhausted to go to the lake. Getting ready for Molly's wedding took up a lot more time than we anticipated. After lunch we put both boys down for a nap. About 30 minutes later I heard a very odd and desperate sound. It was Crew and he couldn't catch his breath. I called Abe, who came home with the car, and I took Crew to urgent care. No one else was there and we got back right away. After chatting with the doctor, he said, "If this is him sounding good, I would definitely give him a steroid shot." I had already felt impressed that this would be the necessary route for us to take and felt comforted that it would be best for Crew. Not even after 10 minutes having received the shot, Crew was already acting better.
Feeling comforted I zoomed home with a much chipper Crew. I then headed out to the River to hurry and take pictures of Molly and Tyler. Camille got there a little before me and was already going, and I jumped in. We  then ran to my parents and participated in the celebration of their wedding day.

Today was our 8th wedding anniversary. What a way to celebrate. This is sometimes what marriage means. Late nights with kids, supporting families, and being goofy when we can!

 Abe is probably often on the receiving end of this look!
