Signing Away Our Life...or Limb

Trying to be super fun parents we decided to take out kids to a jump place on the last day in Idaho. After signing away life and limb, we got the kids inside and told them to go jump. I threw them onto the trampoline and told them to jump. They were being super standoffish about getting in there and jumping. I started up a video and 10 seconds in I pan over to Sawyer and he's crying and crawling back to us. He had landed on his leg on top of the bar/ledge in between two trampolines.

We gave Sawyer chocolate to try and calm him down and get him to try jumping again, but he refused. Any movement made him scream like a crazy person and he wouldn't stop shaking. Crew and Abe jumped the rest of the time while I sat with my parents trying to ignore the body odors and help Sawyer. I suggested we go to the ER on the way home after seeing how my tough Sawyer was not even willing to be shifted. Abe said he was fine.

Fast forward through a rough night of me sleeping on the floor next to Sawyer on the couch, we took him to the ER.  They did x-rays and said it wasn't broken. In fact there was no bruising or swelling. Then as we were carrying Sawyer out, the doctor saw Sawyer's screaming reaction to being moved, and we decided to do an MRI. Sure enough, his tibia was broken all the way through right up by the growth plate.  He was not happy about having to get a full leg splint/cast but was soothed by the new snugly "Green Teddy."  Having it wrapped also diminished his muscles spasms and made him a lot more comfortable.

After another night of me sleeping next to Sawyer (this time in a much more comfortable bed) we decided to head home a day late. He did extremely well and we even went to the Shoshone falls on the way through Twin.

Our "cheap" spring vacation definitely turned into an adventure. Here's to 2 months of healing and crutches!

Poor buddy. Glad he's out of it by now.
